aRULEonFIGHTING
This RP is likely going to contain quite a degree of fighting, players against players and players against NPCs. Many a great comic story, from Siege to The Death of Superman has had at its center, a great big fight! However, a comic is being by written by a single person, who can bring up and lower powers as he or she see's fit. In roleplay, this is not the case. Fighting often turns into a competition, as powers can vary so wildly between individuals, there can, on occasion, be a bad element in fighting. While we already have rules against Power playing & Godmodding, we also have a rule we call "Reasonable Force," the idea of this rule is to avoid a character using over the top powers (against another player) in a fight where such use of powers, simply is not required.
For instance, Character A is capable of lifting 100 tons, while Character B can lift 50 tons, in a fight between these two, Character A would be limited to using slightly over what Character B can use (perhaps 55 tons), this way a level of fair play is introduced, while still giving an advantage to Character A, to represent and acknowledge that he or she is still the physically stronger of the two. However, should Character A have been fighting three individuals, all of whom can lift 20 tons, Character A would be allowed to use a bit above the combined strength of all opponents, in this instance, giving him or her about 65 or so tons of super strength. This rule of course does not apply to just Super Strength, it is just an example and players are encouraged to use their common sense on what is "reasonable force." Keep in mind, this rule isn't designed to let Batman beat Hercules in a boxing match, its designed so stop Hercules dropping a building on Batman throwing a street lamp will suffice. In a situation like this, Hercules can feel free to shrug off a punch as if its nothing. This is a "common sense" and "fair play" rule, nothing about it is set in stone/
If you are curious as to how a particular power might be suitably reduced, please contact a member of staff via PM.
This rule can be ignored under various circumstances, for instance, it is ignored against NPCs (bar special NPCs, such as people created for plot events), it can be ignored if all participants in a fight agree to do so, it can be ignored if the details of a fight scenario have been plotted or scripted between the players involved already.
Keep in mind however, this rule is not a shield against people who want their characters to trash talk other characters and provoke them. Actions still have consequences, if Green Goblin smack talks the Hulk and tries to have a boxing match with him, I'm not going to stop the Hulk from putting him in hospital. If a player feels another player is attempting to abuse this rule so their character can provoke them into a fight and hide behind forcing the provoked character into a depowered state, feel free to PM me with a link to the thread, if there's a genuine case of attempts to abuse this rule, I'll gladly approve your character to use their max. Just use common sense to tell the difference between "in character" banter and a player just being a pain.
