Appearance:
Civilian Attire: For a nymph, magic wielder and a person who spent most of her life being passed from one mystical dimension to another, Evangeline’s style isn’t as foreign to modern American fashion as one might think. Her wardrobe consists of both progressive and retrospective styles. The range in simplicity or complexity doesn’t really bother Evangeline because some of the most important looks and outfits in any person’s life revolve around complexity and intricacy. However, the comfort factor does play a significant role in her attire. The private high school that Evangeline attends requires that all students wear uniforms, which makes the largest percentage of clothing that she actually wears in the span of a week equates to a school uniform or some sort of school team attire. Outside of school, her typical manner of dress would consist of something inspired by bohemian or preppy styles.
Personality: Activities in the superhero and magical communities are kind of like Fight Club for Evangeline; they are not to be talked about, at least not in the school, personal or, community aspects of her life. That is not to say that Evangeline changes how she goes about interacting with certain people in certain situations; she just doesn't have a desire to regularly intermingle both worlds. While there are some heroes who have more of an open approach to the whole identity thing, Evangeline attempts to loosely maintain a dual identity and keep those whom she is involved with at a particular length without obstructing or ruining relationships. And while she does attempt to maintain a dual identity, Evangeline doesn't have two different personalities.
In a personal sense, Evangeline is somewhat averted to magic. It does seem a bit unwonted for someone who of her lineage but she has no real drive to pursue it besides upholding the deal that her mother made with her. Evangeline was highly intrigued by magic and mystics when she was younger because she was surrounded by magical phenomena all the time. However, her progression in age equated to a growing dissatisfaction with just magic and no real digression from that; having her everyday life and environment imbued with the supernatural got increasingly monotonous and, eventually, brought about Evangeline’s ideal that magic was a more of a luxury than a necessity. As a result, Evangeline mostly uses magic for the super heroine stuff in life, but she does, occasionally, breach her principle and uses magic for more recreational purposes.
Since she was a child and was placed in all kinds of situations where she had a lack of self-assurance or faith in her circumstances and little to no choice in her state of affairs, Evangeline has developed a sense of confidence, which some might argue is more like arrogance at times, and opinionated views on things that involve her participation. In general, Evangeline is confident in herself and has self esteem that is typically at an all time high. She sees the lack of such qualities as a weakness and part of the reason why most people can be manipulated and pushed a particular way without much enticement.
While there is some point where her confidence might come across as arrogance, Evangeline does her best to make sure that she catches herself and apologizes whenever she does exude an overconfident attitude, but that doesn’t provide results all of the time because she’s not capable of monitoring every pompous thing she may say. In conjunction with her arrogance, Evangeline can occasionally find herself speaking insensitively. The bluntness of some of her statements can lead her to seem like a “mean girl”. Opinions are an important part of society that help shape the world and are highly significant for Evangeline. She enjoys conversation with others who have differing views and are informed on the issues affecting the world, despite her headstrong and confident nature.
Evangeline is an information enthusiast, a bookworm, a history nerd etc. etc. Politics, local, international, ancient cultures, mythology, classical literature, just about anything that she comes across can catch her interest enough to read up on it or go out and experience or explore it. After learning little things about magicks and later the Homo Magi culture and other cultures’ folktales, Evangeline gained an awareness of the little things that a person could learn and use from the pages of a book or the articles in a newspaper or the scenes of a play. Starting with the aid of Doctor Mist, Evangeline was able to maintain her inquisitiveness about the past and modern world and the peoples inhabiting it.
Commitment factors heavily into Evangeline’s persona because she likes to get involved and takes pledges and follow through on promises. She does her absolute best to take care of those things that she agrees to undertake efficiently and seriously, but she hates doing things that she is forced to do or was signed up to do without her consent, like being coerced to help out her mother at the magic shop or being drafted to help with a school dance or management of a school sports team. If ever there is something that Evangeline wants to participate in, she occasionally over commits and finds herself in an unnecessary and self-inflicted stress situation that drives her to fatigue and/or depression.
Evangeline acts a bit like nymphs from mythology but in a more tainted sense. Like the mythological nature spirits, Evangeline enjoys the outdoors. Her care for nature clearly shows when the time comes for some sort of environmental issue occurs and she joins in on the efforts to right whatever was wronged, which could range from donating money or helping in a more hands-on way. Aside from that, Evangeline will spend time outside just for the sake of being outside; she’ll pretty much hang out anywhere and sometimes ventures to more outdoorsy places, like the beach or a park. Coupling with her fondness of nature, Evangeline is an ovo-lacto vegetarian, which means that she does not consume the meat or flesh of animals in any form. Being a vegetarian does not mean that she pushes her lifestyle on others and doesn’t get offended if someone wants to enjoy meat of some sort; honestly, Evangeline would prepare meat for someone and even handle it, since she isn’t too strict on her already relaxed vegetarianism.
Technology is not Evangeline’s best friend. While handling the latest technology is not too difficult for her, Evangeline is the type of person who will read a manual or watch a tutorial for a new piece of technology until she understands exactly what she needs to do. Once she gets the hang of something, like texting, there isn’t too much of a problem but it takes a little time for her to reach mastery. Basically, she's a bit old fashioned in terms of her preference on technology. This nymph generally keeps her distance from the more technologically advanced concepts, like programming, unless she absolutely positively has to engage in them.

The Hero
Codename: Madamoiselle Xanadu, but called Xanadu for short
Hero Attire: Nothing conventional, at the most, she'll dress up in a bohemian-inspired dress while working at her mother's shop in order to keep up with the style her mother has set forth. But whenever with the Titans or doing her own superhero thing, Evangeline would wear something like this.
Powers: As a descendant of magical beings and, presumably, races, Evangeline has an affinity for magic and is capable of manipulating it for a range of different purposes and outcomes. The main operator or conductor of her magic is verbal spells, which are typically spoken in Old English; however, Evangeline is also capable of either speaking in the English vernacular or other languages or thought cast her spells with an amplified effort and concentration than she would require for her magic's natural language. There are some things Evangeline is able to do regardless of casting a spell because those specific talents are natural abilities.
Magical awareness grants a special sensitivity to supernatural, occult and mystic activities and phenomena. This more specifically entails things like spectral sight, which allows the ability to see spirits and people or creatures invisible to the human eye. However, the invisible persons can only be seen if their cloaking is achieved through some sort of magical means. Sensitivity to the supernatural also grants interpretation of the future through the use of tarot cards, a crystal ball and all of the other magic stuff used for seeing or reading the future. Without having to cast a spell, the ability to dispel any illusions or disguises or alterations to reality that are created through magic is another area of magical awareness. These talents, however, only work for the individual with the ability and would require a spell in order to allow other to benefit from similar, temporary capabilities.
As a nymph, Evangeline has a connection to nature that is manifested in a few different ways. Sensing what nature is feeling and occasionally physically being affected by the condition of the immediate vegetation and wildlife is a trait that ties directly to the idea that nymphs are tied to some point or area in nature. This can be more of a hindrance than a help at times, simply because of the physical illness that might come along with it and the awareness that she has only works for nature not man-made objects in nature or add-on structures, like buildings or sidewalks. In terms of an advantage, this sense would allow her feel where someone might be while in a forest or something of the like, which would be helpful when tracking or the ability to get away from someone with proficiency. Of course, this doesn’t help whenever the person has the ability to be intangible or something of the like. Another stipulation of this would be the fact that Evangeline is only able to sense the state of nature around her within an eighth-mile of her location. Mentally controlling plants is another extension of Evangeline’s connection to nature but only allows her accelerate the growth of plants that are within her line of sight. Unlike those who are skilled with this ability, Evangeline does not have the capability to altering the growth of microscopic plant organisms.
Evangeline is immortal in the sense that she is ageless and deathless. Agelessness means that, after a certain point in time, Evangeline will cease to physically age for any reason, unless someone could bypass this circumstance. To be deathless is to be freed from all conventional and unconventional methods through which one might die or be put to death. This does not exempt her from being injured or contracting some sort of disease. Though she does not have a constantly active rapid healing factor, Evangeline’s body is capable of sensing harmful conditions that challenge her body’s integrity. Under the impression that there is something hindering her corporeal health in its entirety, her body will automatically seek out and resolve or eradicate the problem. In terms of integrity or health in its entirety, anything that compromises the body, mind or other states of being and makes it impossible to operate with complete or some efficiency, which is why she is incapable of dying. Whenever these compromising conditions are met, Evangeline’s regeneration reflex would take effect and allow her to recuperate from fatal injuries or illnesses. This situational healing mechanism directly correlates with the severity of the damage that was done and naturally allows her to recover quicker than the average human being.
Adaptation to an array of environments has origins reminiscent of Evangeline's tie to nature and immortality. The ability to be in different atmosphere and harmful conditions without suffering any symptoms related to alterations in pressure, oxygen content and other environmental changes. This allows the body to react to the changes with the ability to maintain the integrity of the body system as a whole.
In order to levitate objects the magic Evangeline possesses creates a force vertical to gravity, or an anti-gravitational field, that suspends an object or person in the air at varied heights. Levitation does suspend things and people but is far inferior to flight because of the lack of control that a person would have over their body’s movements in relation to the force acting on them. Though a person might be able to master some semblance to flight and all of the motions that are required to fine tune it, the field of anti-gravity would have to be constantly available and applied to them. For the most part, anything that is more than two hundred pounds will not be sustained for as long as something lighter and anything above three hundred pounds isn’t affected by her levitation abilities. In terms of the time limit, Evangeline can typically hold something two pounds or less for around five minutes and anything much higher, like two hundred and fifteen to three hundred, than that causes the time limit to suffer drastically, like cut to a tenth of the original five minutes.
Evangeline is gifted with the skill of magical energy blasts that are released in either a concentrated or radial energy wave. Evangeline is capable of utilizing eldritch magic energy that produces considerable concussive force. At the most, Evangeline would be able to generate the equivalent of 500 pounds of force, which is approximately the equivalent of a fourth of an average car, and either concentrate it all at one target or radiate it from her person. When using the radial effect, the energy only spread out about 164 feet and would loose potency by one percent every 0.61 feet that it moves further away from its point of origin. While Evangeline can emit 500 pounds of force, the shields and constructs that she produces using spells are only able to handle two tons of force before dispersing.
Teleportation allows Evangeline to travel just about any place that she desires at a thought. While her teleportation is not limited by line of sight or extra-dimensional travel, it is limited to 6,250 miles without strain, which means that intergalactic travel is not regularly within her capability, and is mostly effective for personal transportation. Moving people and things that exceed more than her body's mass, when not in an emergency case or situation where it is difficult to focus on an incantation, is typically done through the use of some spell. Evangeline's method of transportation allows her to teleport to areas that cannot visualize with some accuracy, like if she wanted to go to some village in a lesser known part of the world, but the better she can visualize it or make a point of reference. After teleporting, Evangeline has no need for recovery when she honors her physical restraints.
After receiving approval from Dream of the Endless, Evangeline is capable of entering and manipulating the dreams of others. This, also know as oneiromancy, could be utilized in a few ways. First, there is the ability to send a dream of omen or information or something along those lines. Due to the fact that she would rarely have anything to warn someone about or much information to offer up, Evangeline’s sending capability is not as likely to be used by her personally. In her mother or father’s line of work the accessibility to this sort of ability would be helpful and Evangeline does do so on her mother’s behalf from time to time. Secondly, oneiromancy allows Evangeline to actively participate and interact in another person’s dream. This particular ability does not have a range but it only capable to affect one person at a time, seeing as Evangeline’s consciousness is not able to partition itself.
Skills: A combination of skills learned through all the realms she’s resided in and a few lessons from cookbooks and such, Evangeline has gained a level of adeptness for cooking and baking. She may not be a master chef but Evangeline can, pretty quickly, pick up techniques and utilize them in different ways when in the process of cooking or baking something. Vegetarian and organic food items are typically what Evangeline uses when cooking despite her experience with cooking meats and such. On top of that, this nymph has experience cooking in different situations that may not provide modern cooking technologies.
Evangeline has an admiration for schedule-making and organization. As a high school student with a reasonable social life, Evangeline does have major events that she must keep track of, like sport games, club meetings, tests, etc, but she has a method of arranging these things so that they do not restrict her free time. Evangeline doesn’t mind altering her schedule and can typically do so without any major conflict of activities; however, her commitment to commitment causes her to be a bit weary whenever she does have something important planned and something new would apparently steam roll it. Organization spreads to every nook and cranny of her life and is rarely disregarded. She may even be a bit obsessive with her organization but won’t have a mental breakdown is something is out of place; she’ll just work on it now or later. Planning allows Evangeline to neatly decide when she’ll do things and sort out priorities from leisure activities. This skill could be applied to helping plotting out a plan for a mission or battle, even when it happens to be in the middle operation.
As a means of channeling magic energies, Old English has become one of Evangeline’s extra curricular languages. She is talented with vocabulary and verbs, which is the most important part for her spells, and has only recently started learning the conjugations and different grammar rules for actual conversation in the language. Manuscripts, like Beowulf or The Canterbury Tales, and other writings that come out of the Old English literary period are still difficult for her to moderately read or translate but with some time she would be able to make it through an Old English text with a general understanding and may even be able to translate pieces here and there. Evangeline’s study of Latin is on the level of expertise as her Old English and her Sanskrit is at a minimal level, which means she knows enough of the language to understand a few handfuls of words. These ancient languages are more for the purpose of recognizing and understanding any magical spells that might use them. Evangeline also knows a formidable amount of the Spanish language from classes and some experience while in Spanish-speaking countries.
While she is not on the Olympic level, Evangeline does have some athletic experience and regularly exercises or trains for a sport. The most prominent of these would have to be volleyball, which she participates in the fall and winter seasons. She is at a high school varsity level of competition and knows the rules, a mixed set of skills, maneuvers, etc as well as how to use them in an array of different situations effectively, which helped her gain a varsity status; of course being tall helps out too. Like volleyball, Evangeline took up Pilates and kickboxing after she exited her thirteen-year tour of a few magical realms. Evangeline’s experience with kickboxing is more of a cardio and fat burn thing than self-defense, though learning some of these techniques has equated to a level of self-protection training, but certainly nothing like mastery.
Through the use of the knowledge that she has acquired through first hand experience and from the literature and media that she has encountered over the years, Evangeline has become a bit knowledgeable on cultures and histories all around the world. While Europe and Africa are her strongest sub-categories, she does have some knowledge of the cultures that are found on each of the other five regularly inhabited continents. In terms of information, Evangeline keeps up with her news from different media outlets in order to stay up to date on the issues in the US and abroad. This information can come in handy whenever she is travelling and interacting with people for magical or other reasons. Map-reading and other details that involve reading or examination are typically something that is good with as well.
Evangeline also has a list of magical contacts and people that she can call for help with little tidbits of information or full, in person aide. She has gained this through her mother and through her own experiences with members of the magical community. While she does have an reasonable list of sorcerers on her contacts, Evangeline also has a circle of friends and a network that stems from those people, which allows her to spread and acquire bits of non-magical information rather quickly through social networks, texting, etc.
Special Equipment: The most common piece of paraphernalia that Evangeline has with her would have to be a necklace of some sort. These necklaces have charms on them that are capable of masking her magical aura. Evangeline does have monitored access to her mother's tarot and magical shop that is also the storage place for many other magical items or entities. In general, Evangeline might use and be in possession of occult books or tarot cards or a crystal ball but not much else.
Weaknesses: Despite her immortality, Evangeline can still suffer from other physical ailments; this would include things like exhaustion, breaking bones, and so on. She can be hurt in the same range of severity and feel pain just as any other person could. This also means that she does not die physically, but she can be injured to a point of life-threatening, which would then cause her body to prompt itself to repair. Her body also requires a certain level of sustenance to maintain its functionality. Without food, water, medicine when sick, and other things that help manage the body’s condition, Evangeline would essentially die, without actually passing away; in other words, her body would in a miserable state until she received the required nourishment to return her body back to its original, healthy state.
Evangeline takes it upon herself to maintain a type of magical cloaking when in her civilian identity. Though this may seem unnecessary, some of the sorcerers, magical beings and creatures that she encounters as a hero are gifted with the skill to track the magical aura that any magic user may leave behind. In order to mask this, Evangeline typically wears a charm on her necklace that is solely for that purpose, of course more powerful mystic beings would not necessarily or effectively be thrown off. And though not as likely, Evangeline could forget her charm or get it destroyed in some manner, allowing her magical signature to emanate from her.
Like many heroes, Evangeline cares for those people whom she affiliates with regularly. One way of protecting them from potential danger would be through her enchanted necklaces but that does not always allow her to protect against endangering others. If Evangeline’s identity or magical aura were to be discovered, this could put friends, family, etc in danger. A situation like that would drive Evangeline to stress, which can affect her overall performance and effectiveness of her magic. It might also cause self-endangerment through unreasonable or half-baked planning or irrational behavior.
Okay, many teenagers find themselves at odds with their parents and Evangeline and Nimue Inwudu share no different relationship. Though she doesn’t hate her mother, Evangeline was pretty much suckered into the job she currently has, which involves helping her mother with magic shop, magic world, and human world upkeep. After feeling manipulated and making a deal with her mother, Evangeline has done her best to kind of irk her mother with ignoring magical studies and so on. However, Madame Xanadu always seems to be able to convince Evangeline that she needs to help her out using Evangeline’s weakness for upholding commitments, or promises, or the duty she has as a hero or a daughter, like helping out her blind mother.
The fine-tuned magic, in general, is not Evangeline’s strong suit. Yes, Evangeline was in magical realms for a major chunk of her life and, yes, she has been taught the art but she just doesn’t care enough to make it a chief study and practice. So, magic isn’t her strong suit because she doesn’t particularly use magic for daily things and has sparse non-combat experience with it. She knows how to cast spells and can command her spell-less abilities but Evangeline’s lack of experience with and fine-tuning of those abilities may leave her at a disadvantage against more experienced magic users.
Confidence and emotion are tied to Evangeline's magic, just as they are for many other magic users. Without the confidence in one's magic and abilities, Evangeline can virtually loose their ability to cast spells and cause desired effects to happen. Confidence can be regained, but the recovery period can take a while and will still effect Evangeline's magic for as long as she is recovering. Emotions can get the best of Evangeline at times and when that occurs, there are several things that can happen. Subconsciously, spells can start to be cast and manifest whenever someone is scared or angry as a result of not being in total control. Anger can amplify Evangeline's magic for a while, but is more likely to make it go out of control than usual and being saddened or depressed can diminish the effectiveness of her magic in the same way that a lack of confidence can.
In order to cast a spell, there are many ways a person may do so. There are thought thought-cast spells, there are spells involving writing and there are spells involving speech, along with a reasonable number of other methods. Most commonly, sorcerers use verbal incantations to produce the desired results. Since all speech must be done with the aid of vocal cords, a throat, etc, there is a chance that the ability to speak could be hindered in some way, rendering the magic user somewhat useless. Being gagged, losing her voice, etc. make it difficult, and generally impossible, for Evangeline to cast spells verbally. Thought-casts, while useful in many situations and second most used method through which Evangeline casts spells, generate from thoughts and concentration, which could be thrown off by natural, mutant, or supernatural methods. And transcribing spells takes time.
Evangeline has not been known for her physical combat prowess; unless volleyball and kickboxing and Pilates count toward something like that. Most of the realms that she was an inhabitant of simply allowed her to get book-smart or study up on magic or permitted her to learn skills for life. The only place that she might have learned some combatant artistry was early in her life timeline that she really doesn’t remember much of what she was taught. So, Evangeline sticks to magical combat and rarely uses physical skills like the basic punches, kicks, and a few combinations from kickboxing. While she is not the best combatant, Evangeline would probably be able to defend herself in close-contact, hand-to-hand fight with a normal, or relatively normal, human being.
Oneiromancy is valuable in some senses; however, there are limits to it that could cripple the user and possibly those around them. One, dream manipulation only works when someone is dreaming, which occurs during both REM and NREM sleep. If a person is not dreaming while asleep, then Evangeline’s oneiromancy cannot be used on that subject. Second, oneiromancy, at least Evangeline’s standpoint, may be used but only with approval from Dream of the Endless, seeing as that is his realm of expertise. Three, when the user is using the ability it can, and typically does, completely incapacitate the user’s body making them unresponsive to the outside world, leaving the vulnerable. Lastly, oneiromancy can be detected by those having a dream and may cause them to react to a foreign person in their dream and attack the user in some way, like the mind’s defense system.
For Evangeline, looking into the future is an inconstant and uncertain practice that does not always produce an outcome correctly. Evangeline can see the future as far as years away or into the next couple minutes. Without tarot cards, a crystal ball or some other magical instrument, the further away the future foretelling is, the less accurate a fortune will be because of the many choices and paths that a person might take up to that point and the less likely she could pinpoint where they would end up exactly. Evangeline can only see one event happening and finds the information she gets from these readings vague. Besides that, without the use of tarot cards, a crystal ball, etc, Evangeline’s future telling is more like intermittent premonitions.
To dispel something is the ability to discern false or illusionary perceptions from reality. Limited in this skill, Evangeline is capable of removing cloaking or illusions of magical origin from people, places and things, allowing her to see their true nature. This ability is easily accessible for personal use because of its innate nature; in order to bestow this gift on others Evangeline would require a spell or device, and even then it would be temporary. A disadvantage of dispelling would also include the strength of the sorcerer or the illusion. Dispelling cloaking involves seeing past or cancelling inherent magic or spell and with varying degrees of magic used in the universe, the stronger the cloaking or user is, the more difficult it is to negate it; in some cases it might be impossible.
Similar to her mother, Evangeline’s ability to teleport allows things that she is touching to travel with her to the desired location. Any thing or person that she is not touching requires some sort of incantation in order to transport them as well. Evangeline is capable of teleporting multiple items and all different kinds of life forms; however, anything or anyone that is greater than her body mass causes her mental and physical strain. Whenever she is under that level of stress, it is difficult to maintain concentration and it can make it difficult to travel the intended distance or to the intended destination. In some cases, too great a strain can cause her and those with her to travel to other dimensions, varying distances and occasionally nowhere. After a strained teleportation is carried out, Evangeline would suffer muscle stiffness, fatigue, headache, etc. If highly restricted, Evangeline is not able to disapparate.
Most Heroic Achievements: Cleaned up a Valentine's Day disaster that involved a demon parading around as the god of love, some muggle women who attempted calling up Cupid to help them out and their demonic dream dates.
History: Though it would happen to be ironic on top of everything else, the conception and birth of the daughter of a former nymph-sorceress and an observer of the universe was not particularly magical. At first glance, Madame Xanadu and the Phantom Stranger appear to be relatively normal people but, upon a more in depth look into their lives and histories, they're, in actuality, a perfectly dysfunctional couple, which makes it difficult to believe that the two had relations aside from the routine uneasiness. The two pairing up has to do with Madame Xanadu's indifference towards the Phantom Stranger and her occasional initiative to keep the Stranger from just observing situations or taking it upon herself to intervene in his supposed plans. In reality, there is no way, human or otherwise, to perturb the Phantom Stranger’s destined path and plan, only help it along, and the result of the Madame’s futile intercession resulted in the birth of a bewitched child.
In order to raise anyone or anything properly nurturing care and undivided attention is needed the majority of the time, both of which were not readily available to either entities involved. Between Madame Xanadu’s magical advice and detective services, the Phantom Stranger’s wandering study of mankind and the fact that both were bonded by an unknown force that kept them from intervening in the affairs of others, it was seemingly impossible to bring up a daughter who would be acceptable and know the ways of magic. As a result, Evangeline’s mother decided to use her resources in order to have her child raised properly. There was some set up that was required and, though there were plenty of people capable of doing the job, Madame Xanadu wished to make the best choices that would place her daughter on the path she desired; a love of magic and the magical world. Occasionally Evangeline was left in the care of Tiffany, the daughter of her former apprentice, Charlotte Blackwood, who had been serving as an apprentice for three years, and was pretty much watched over as any young child would be.
Gemworld, the gem-themed world pieced into twelve realms and home of the princess Amethyst, claimed about three and a half years of Evangeline’s early life. Despite the fact that she was there until the age of four and learned almost the equivalent of nothing magic-inspired, Evangeline was able to live in a land ideal for a young child to grow up in because of its fairy tale aura. While Evangeline rarely had interaction with the royal family, she was generally kept within the walls of the castle and was cared for by “loyal subjects” that could teach proper skills for a young child and help her develop her into in a respectable young lady. She was progressively taught things like eating with the allotted utensils and dressing herself properly but for the most part that was all she did. At her mother’s request, Evangeline was able to get a few lessons from magic beings who were around and weren’t busy. Gemworld did not have the magical emphasis that her mother was hoping for so Evangeline ended up moving to her next destination prematurely.
Madame Xanadu appeared to take her daughter to the next place that could probably instill the love of magic in Evangeline. Within of seconds of being removed from the fanciful, medieval scene of Gemworld, Evangeline was taken to an ornate city better known as the Hidden City. Home if the Medulla Jewel, a powerful magic source that hid and guarded the city, the Hidden City was the most magic-imbued and modern age place that Evangeline would end up residing in. With a sharp contrast to the Gemworld, the Hidden City was the idyllic place for the young girl to mature her magic and be prepared for the next place she would be toted off to. Evangeline was able to advance her social skills and life skills and study the art of magic with more focus. Evangeline was able to attend school and begin developing herself to the good of the Homo Magi community.
Placed in the care of the immortal Doctor Mist, Evangeline was granted the chance to study a bit more than just magicks and school subjects. Doctor Mist defied the friends, school, family magic cycle that seemed to dominate Evangeline’s life and allowed her to accompany him on little adventures that he found himself on from time to time. It was almost like being an apprenticeship because of all of the magic that was involved along with the Homo Magi culture and history that she was taught in the process. The culture and history of the ancient and modern peoples was another subject that was emphasized by Doctor Mist because of his involvement with the African tribe of Kor and his travelling habits. There were a few instances when Evangeline, even at a young age, was instructed to go to points in the past and retrieve items as part of an extra assignment or for the purpose of placing them into safekeeping as important magical contraband.
The Hidden City and her apprenticeship was enough to incline Evangeline to engage herself in magic as opposed to remaining in the lady-like daze that she was left in from Gemworld. With a reasonable number of adventures to the past and growing up in the ornate, magically advanced city, Evangeline was able to grow in the magical arts just as her mother had desired for her. Even as at the age equivalent to that of a elementary school child, the young nymph was more than capable of handling herself and acting independently in more complex situations. While in the Hidden City and under the mentorship of Doctor Mist, Evangeline was exposed to more advanced magic and items like the Stones of Life, which were given to the Homo Magi people so they could prepare a powerful enough bride for her mentor, Doctor Mist, and the Helmet of Nabu, which was known for the immense power that it granted anyone who wore it. While the Helmet of Nabu was more of a study that involved in depth observation, the Stones of Magic presented an interactive and unexpected opportunity for study.
Her last six months in the advanced city were interrupted when the Stones of Life were removed from their haven in the Hidden City and other places of Homo Magi residence. Though the task had been carried out in a wave of thefts, the person who did so still had to be a talented sorcerer, which led several people to believe that it was someone like Felix Faust. Doctor Mist naturally took an interest in the Stones’ disappearance because of their supposed purpose in his future. In order to get his protégée involved, Doctor Mist took it upon himself to assign a research task to Evangeline while he gathered more evidence from people who were responsible for the Stones of Life in whatever locations they had been kept. Upon locating a Stone through a combination of information gathering from people and some magical tracking methods, Mist and Evangeline travelled to the swamp-like area in which it was to be located and confronted the sorcerer who was residing there.
Evangeline was given the simple task of locating the Stone, which would have been emanating magical energies, while her mentor was busy acquiring information from the sorcerer who had gotten his hands on this Stone of Life. After locating the Stone and putting into a portable magical safe, an enchanted object that she had received from Doctor Mist, Evangeline returned and found that the sorcerer was apparently apart of a group of others who were all involved in the magical heist. Unfortunately, the sorcerer had managed to keep all of his information to himself through the use of a magical telepathic block and tight lips. Since torture wasn’t necessarily in the moral code of Doctor Mist, especially not with a young, impressionable soul around, he took the sorcerer into custody and took him to the Hidden City for further questioning from the authorities there.
With the names of the other magical practitioners and the identity of the thief involved unknown, there was not much that Mist of his protégée could do but go back to the regular lessons until Evangeline’s mother came to take her to another magical place. Despite coming into possession of one of the Stones of Life, Evangeline has kept in contact with her old mentor in order to stay updated on the matter and occasionally help out.
The young nymph spent o year in the dimensional world of Skartaris. While more of a combat magic enrichment, the relatively short time spent in the realm endowed her with a varying level of experience in a number of skills. The change in surroundings and amenities and advancements was the trigger of several changes she suffered during the one-year period. Like many persons in the pre-teen age range, Evangeline further developed her personality and became somewhat independent of those responsible for her; Skartaris, with its self-dependence within a community that worked towards a common goal, emphasis on survival and war, was an ideal place for her to grow in her self-determination and self-reliance. Skartaris’ primitive-medieval mixed culture was something that Evangeline was able to use to her benefit . This culture allowed her to spend more time in natural settings, which encouraged her love of nature, as well as the ability to use her magic in less supervised and proper situations. Taking a defensive position during wars that came to the land, Evangeline helped other soldiers defend the Warlord’s domain from adversaries that were also endowed with extraordinary power and worked to heal others with some magic that she learned from Jennifer Morgan, Warlord’s daughter. Through things like occasionally accompanying hunting parties, helping out with daily duties and aiding in war situations, Evangeline learned to improvise and innovate.
Home of the Celtic pantheon and something similar to a sylvan paradise, Avalon became the last place where she would stop and take residence for about two years before she was to return to her mother a magically imbued young lady. Besides being bountiful and self-sufficient in almost every way, the land of Avalon was the dwelling place of mythological creatures and was frequented by beings from foreign pantheons, which allowed Evangeline to interact outside of the Celtic culture. While there was no war and little need to worry about much in a place like this, Evangeline was still instructed in the mystical arts with more focus on Old English verbal spell-casting. Under the direction of her aunt Vivienne, also known as the Lady of the Lake, Evangeline had a much more nature-centered existence partly due to the fact that she was a nymph and her aunt’s personal lifestyle. A more natural routine equated to very little parental supervision and the development of living off of the land, the latter being Evangeline’s least favorite.
The lack of a guardian’s guidance, there was a lot that Evangeline was able to encounter and, subsequently, deal with on her own. The pastoral environment simply altered her outlook on how she went about things and came to be a vegetarian as a result; she wasn’t too fond of killing animals in order to retrieve meat. Aside from the change in lifestyle and choice of food source, Evangeline became better acquainted with the heritage and culture from her mother's side and was introduced to the fact that she was a nymph. Like other pantheons and their paradise-like domains, the Tuatha da Danaan and Avalon were centered on the Celtic culture. Her mother’s heritage provided Evangeline with knowledge of the Celtic people and customs. Stories, like King Arthur’s tale, and history also became a regular part of her everyday existence and were an important part in further perpetuating her interest in literature and history. On top of the mythical and historical information, the gods and other inhabitants of the island paradise became teachers of hers. The Dagda, king of the Celtic gods and the god of magic, among other things, occasionally helped guide Evangeline’s practice of magic in a more focused atmosphere. Other gods and goddesses, like Brigid and Epona, helped influence her fondness for nature, control of her nymph-oriented abilites, as well as gave her tasks that pertained to the flora and fauna of Avalon, which was typically in order to help maintain the well-being and visual appeal.
With a few magically doctored documents and information from her mother, Evangeline moved to New York City when she turned thirteen years old and was gradually immersed in the American culture, which wasn’t too different from the few societies that she had been introduced to in the past; but mostly it was an amalgamation of those cultures that led her to that conclusion. Though she suffered a bit from culture shock, thanks to living in Avalon for two years and Skartaris the year before that, Evangeline was able to adjust to the American lifestyle with reasonable speed and could handle different aspects of her life. Depsite previously living in a nontechnical and old-fashioned existence, the young nymph was able to partially assimilate to the customs and duties of an average American.
New York City had its use and its thrills for about two years, but when recruitment auditions for the Young Titans was announced and reached the attention of those throughout the hero community, Madame Xanadu thought it best that her daughter to make an attempt to join the team or become some sort of magical consultant, which was all in effort to influence her into a more heroic mindset. The young girl, not particularly fond of the team idea but even less enamored with the idea of working for her mother twenty-four hours a day and seven days a week agreed to help out the team whenever they were in need of some sort of magical consultation and also managed to convince her mother that she could better achieve this by living in closer vicinity to the Young Titans, which meant moving to San Francisco. With the help of some research and negotiation, Evangeline and her mother reached a conclusion on school that Evangeline was to attend and drafted a plan concerning visiting or working on the weekends, and in case of a magical emergency. Starting her sophomore year, Evangeline attended Zimmerman-Hughes Preparatory School in San Francisco, California.
Fifteen and kind of free of the parental grasp of her mother, Evangeline was able to become even more independent than when she was living with Madame Xanadu, thanks to the distance between them, and could easily guide her life in the way that she saw fit while recognizing her restraints; this helped her manage classes and pursue afterschool sports and activities. Evangeline was also a reserve member of the Young Titans for about one and half years and aided the Titans on several occasions, mostly providing information and support, and was later upgraded to full member status on account of the graduation of some senior members. Despite being free from her mother's demands five days of the week, Evangeline was still reponsible for the promise she made regarding the weekends. Part of the contract that Evangeline and her mother agreed to involved periodic interaction between the two for mother-daughter time and Evangeline's obligation to act as Madame Xanadu’s delivery girl and aide to the management and protection of the magical and human worlds.
Over the last few months, Evangeline has been caught up in a scheme of her mother’s and was asked to aide Frankenstein’s Monster and a new incarnation of the Sentinels of Magic with a search for a few magical items in Madame Xanadu's place. Evangeline reluctantly agreed and was informed on the objects that they had already found and cataloged the location of. With the number of magical items at least doubled within the last thirty years, the Sentinels were worried about rouge magic users utilizing magic items for whatever sinister purposes that they had planned. Klarion the Witch Boy was one of the concerns that the Sentinels had because of the interest that he apparently expressed in the, new to her, Darkhold, a grimoire written by the Elder God Chthon. Since the book was apparently full of black magic spells, the Sentinels pursued the Witch Boy and clashed a few times. Klarion later used his Horigal and managed to attain the book. As a result, the team had to go on the offensive and, with the intervention of the Phantom Stranger and the Spectre, the Sentinels of Magic were able to retrieve the book, and separate Klarion from his familiar; saving the magical world and, potentially, the human world.
After being escorted back to the human world by the Phantom Stranger, which gave them a little time to catch up and all, Evangeline jumped back into her routine and caught up on a few things that she had left outstanding. She recently continued her role as a Young Titan and as Madame Xanadu’s errand girl.
RP Sample: Once a person graduated from the trick-or-treating and other childish festivities, the Halloween party phase was lurking somewhere in the future. Some people see Halloween as a night filled with magic and monsters, but it was much more like Mean Girls portrayed it. The only magic that was in action was erotica and people, mainly the girls, were dressed provocatively in order to flaunt their stuff, although most had nothing to actually flaunt. Besides the under, and in some cases legal, drinking, music blaring and people interacting in just about every way, humanly possible, there was nothing to really look forward to. At least there hadn’t been anything so far. In the midst of it all, Evangeline found herself loathing every moment she spent at a party, courtesy of a friend from school; well, she had started to hate is after about an hour ago.
The beginning of the party, which started around 8:00 pm, was just fine. She had danced for a while, spoken to her current crush and even drank some unspiked punch. After hanging out with a couple of friends and being complimented on her of her costume, it seemed like nothing would ruin her Halloween. Of course, she hadn’t taken into account the drunk teens and young adults stumbling all around her and slowly escalating the party atmosphere into something not so enjoyable. The first happenstance was somebody groped Evangeline while she was dancing. Now, whenever a girl is violated in such a way, she should do her best to get a description of the pervert who did it, get out of the area and alert the proper authorities, but that isn’t exactly everyone naturally reacts to a situation like that. Eva, being taken by surprise, sent a flying elbow into the nose of the perpetrator. With a yelp from the pervert, the dancers in a close vicinity fell still. A condescending “oops” came from Evangeline’s mouth as she exited the dance floor and went to seek some other place to be.
After that, everything else went downhill. Two different people in similar dinosaur costumes almost puked on her, on two different occasions; however, someone trying to pass by her ended up as the target and saved her from a night, or longer, of clothing and body scrubbing. Later, the person whom she had hit in the nose approached her and told her that she broke his nose and called her a b*tch along with some other choice words. After that incident, Evangeline retreated outside to get out of drunken and provoking atmosphere. She had to dodge around a few people smoking something at the top of the porch stairs and a few couples making out towards the middle. Eventually she made it to the last couple stairs where there was nothing going on, sat and rested on the concrete. She managed to keep herself from leaving or losing it and just gathered herself for a couple moments.
Evangeline couldn’t stay away from the party for long and located her best girlfriends from school in the kitchen. They were fitting into the Mean Girls Halloween cast as well and were dressed for the party occasion but they all looked a bit drained out. Putting on an expression that wouldn’t dampen the party mood, Evangeline walked over to the granite island the girls were gathered around and
"Had enough partying for one night?" She asked, trying to not to sound too smart alecky or whatever as she did. Evangeline’s best friends, otherwise known as the reveling trio, were the type of girls who loved to party and would do so whenever they could. On the flip side, Evangeline wasn’t too into the whole partying scene and would simply tag along or provide chaperone services at the least.
"Well, Chels broke the heel on her 200 dollar boots and is too broken up to say anything because she’s on the brink of crying, but we still have a party to stop by at Vivi’s house."[/color] Ximena explained with a clearly irritated tone.
