Clinging on the door looking in Erin could only listen as the person over the speaker described the man’s future fate. They were about to fry his DNA and mutate it. Erin surely knew the idea to it, but a recombination is not something to mess around with. Not only did it change a person and fuse to creatures or objects into one, it was a horrible device that would often leave its victims microscopically hung open.
She remembered there were several versions at Dhema and she even was subject to some of the lower level ones. It was a cheap and easy way to mutate someone. Many people who were victim to these types of things did not survive, or they were never the same person, most went insane having their brains matted together with something else’s. She was different, her insanity was different.
Arachnia’s eyes grew full of hatred, if it wasn’t bad enough there was forces hiding out there doing this to people and making armies, now it was in her own city. The rage and anguish she carried all these years began to resurface and it began to bubble in her blood. There was suddenly a loud and ear piercing screech outside the lab door and it sounding like something was slamming into the side of the wall. The door to the lab then flew across the room when she punched it off its hinges with one blow.
A dark and thrashing figure of a woman, no a creature stood in the door way, her body was tense as her muscles clenched. Her hood had slide down but it didn’t matter because she didn’t look the same now. Her skin was night black and shiny and her hair was light grayish brown. She gave off another screeching roar, her veins shown across her neck and pain in her face as something burst through her back. Through it all she looked at the men before her with wide eyes.
“Not in MY CITY! I won’t let you do this to someone else, you monsters!” She said as another spider limb burst from her back, pale blue blood spattering against the wall of the lab. She pulled a spiderang from her belt and threw it, hitting the machine where the sensitive lens were and knocked the rays path off into the room and away from the man and the bug.
She then webbed the closest man and yanked him across the room into some animal cages. She was so overcome with fury, she would not be thinking right and she would forget that help was just a call away. “You will not!” She screamed.

"Well if it isn't the famous Arachnia?" said the voice of the Queenpin. "It confounds me a bit that you would want to interrupt this party. After all, I'm not trying to eliminate one of your friends in the JLA, but the very scum all of you are trying to rid the streets of. Why risk your own existence to save a common crook... who by the way is already mutating into a cockroach. I'm afraid you jumped in and messed up my little toy a bit too late for that." As the poor man mutated and grew into a half-man/half-roach, his straps broke. He howled in agony as the change continued. "Now the question is- do you want to take him out of his misery or should I? After all, it would give you a rare opportunity to walk away and escape a terrible fate yourself."

Before they could even pull their guns fully out of their holts, they were slapped away by strings of webbing and tossed across the laboratory. The spider woman leaped across the row of tables attacking one man with a series of kicks and punches from all eight limbs. Within a mere second he was knocked cold. Another man she flipped across the room like a rag doll, right into a wall and shot him with a web to keep him put. As she fought the men the QueenPin spoke to her over the speaker system. Between kicking henchmen hiney, she saw the crook break free and start flailing and banging into things.
She knew it was the scariest and most painful thing ever. She transformed all the time and was stuck like this. Erin had failed the man and it was something that would cut deep into her. He would never live a normal life, jail would have been a godsend to him. A hatred in Erin’s eyes would blossom for this woman known as the QueenPin. She had never really had an enemy that was female, but it was all so personal now. The man now suffered the fate that she knew all too well. Sure it could be fixed but who he was would never be the same. She was sickened and enraged.
“Common crook or not! Your crime here is far worse than anything he could have ever done to you! You are going to pay for what you did to his poor man. I won’t stop until I see you lock behind bars.” She yelled as she grabbed a guy, flipped him around, kicked him in the back of the neck and then tossed him to the ceiling and stuck him there.
Arachnia leaped over to the crook as he trampled about, his body changing and growing. She needed to subdue him for his own safety. She attempted to web him up but got kicked in the face and slashed at by him. Not only was he thrashing in pain, now the insect part of him saw the spider as a threat and he panicked and attacked in defense.
“I’m trying to help you.” She snapped and shot him with more webbing. She jammed a syringe into his side; it was a toxin from her fangs, venom which would paralyze him. At least then he would be tranquil and she could get him out of here without a scuffle. In the moment a henchman had found a gun and ran across the lab firing it at the insect and arthropod. Arachina stepped in front of him as a shield and webbed the gun from his hand. The bullet hit her ribcage, but the thick exoskeleton had stopped it from entering her chest. It stung like hell but she took swift action and put the man on his ass, breaking his hip in the process.
She screeched and looked up towards the camera. “You have no room to make threats. I knew there were a lot of scumbags in this city but I didn’t think a woman could be on the top of the list. A full core torture chamber and a genetic Recombinator, really? You must have had parents that were real sick, demented and disturbed pigs!”

"Watch your tongue, hero!" scowled the Queenpin. "My father was the most powerful man who ever lived in New York! You will not mock his memory!" Once the Queenpin calmed, she laughed a little. "But believe it or not I do have a heart." Queenpin then pressed a button which sealed off the exits to the lab. "I was already planning to put the poor little bug out of his misery, considering he was an opening experiment and all. Shame I'll have to do the same for you, my dear... but wrong place, wrong time." Queenpin pressed two other buttons. One lowered the Recombinator down into a trap door. The other sprayed a deadly gas into the room. "It's been most amusing, my new enemy, but I must depart. I have far more fitting test subjects to use my new toy on. Farewell." And with that, the Queenpin left the control room through a secret exit. Down below, the Recombinator was rolled to a van and Queenpin got into her limo.

Hmm she would note that Queen Pin had a real pushy button when It came to her father the Kingpin. He must have really done a number raising her if she turned out like this, a sick mad scientist in the making. Erin took up the roachman and checked his vitals, he was still alive but his body was in major shock, the venom would relax him but it wouldn’t stop the change and destruction going on inside of him. At least he couldn’t hurt himself or her.
“Hqqqeelll mmmiccchh dauuughh errrrrrrr IIIiiccchh llloooogggg ghhhhhheerrr.” He tried to mutter something under his gasps but she couldn’t understand. She ignored him because she needed to get him out of here and to someone who could help. The only place she knew would be home, at JLA. She hoped they could save him. Yet that was not the issue at hand right now, the recombination began to lower and Erin’s sense went off, it was time to get the hell out of there.
The henchmen had scrammed beforehand probably knowing what the Pin was going to do. The doors locked and gates slammed down around the windows and doors, a gas began to spew into the room. There was no way out, the Queenpin was escaping and leaving Arachnia and Roachman to a big can of raid. Erin covered the crooks face with webbing as well as her own. The room was closed off but she was an old pro at this game.
“Running? Really, are you that cowardly? You can’t get rid of me that easy. Typical. Well, this is better than what Scorn would have in mind.” She said and jumped up with enough force to break the ceiling tiles. Air ducts and pathways riddled with wires, tubes and dust was her pathway; a labyrinth that she had mastered when a prisoner of her own mutation hell. Erin pulled the Roachman through the ceiling and began to crawl through the vent and took the webbing off their faces when it was safe. She made her way quickly through the building and kicked the vent cover and jumped onto the roof. She saw a van rolling away but she wasn’t about to purse.
“Tower, this is Arachnia, I need medical assistance Immediately! I have a man here who was victim to Genetic Recombination and is in major shock and critical condition. His system is failing.” Erin said and let go of the com. There was nothing she could do but hope they got there soon; it looked very bad for the crook. She laid him down on the roof and looked into his eyes; they were wide and she looked into them and saw pure fear and pain.
Tears began to drip down her eyes because she knew the pain and the fear and she shook. This was all her fault, why did she have to be a hero and stop this man from mugging some lady. If she just left things be, then this man would probably still be alright. If he wasn’t in jail the Queenpin would never have found him. Even if he was a crook, he didn’t deserve this, no one did. This night would haunt Erin’s very being.
“You can thank the Queenpin for that. She said she’s going to do this to other people. We need to make sure this stops now. Looks like I have a new enemy who hits close to home. I'm not going to let this city turn into some daaa...” She hit the com again.
Suddenly Roachman starting having a seizure and blood began to come out of his mouth. He thrashed about for only a moment and then stopped. The combining of the two was too much for his body and it gave in. Erin’s heart fell as she saw the man pass away violently before her and she couldn’t do a dam thing. She stood there a moment in a cold and numb stance looking at the mangled half man and half bug creature before her. She knelt down and put her hand over his eyes closed them and brushed the man’s hair back. She then recalled what she said and understood what he was trying to say. ‘Tell my daughter I love her.’ The man had a family?
Erin fell next to his body and slammed her fists on the roof, denting it. She would stay there until help arrived, but by then it was too late. The man was dead and Erin was struck where it hurt the most and it would take a few days before she would talk to anyone. “You will pay for this. You will pay Queenpin.”
