Bem, the prince of Wakanda, was just not enjoying his day. He was in his father's Grotto brooding in his chair. The air around him had the slightly crisp scent of salt to it... It reminded him of her: Anreal McKenzie.
Anreal McKenzie is the daughter of Namor. He, Bem, is the son of Orro Munroe and T'Challa (aka The Black Panther). Both are royalty in their own realms, but there are a couple problems: He being a land dweller and she a part of what most believed to be an "ancient mythical" city called Atlantis. He had only been a couple times when he was younger, with his mum, but that was really all it took for him. The biggest problem, for him, was that he had a crush on her.
There were many issues that he could foresee if he were to pursue a relationship with the princess, namely the Wakandan traditionalists who were becoming more and more aggressive since his mother took the throne. The would seek any avenue to usurp power should he be caught or witnessed in any tryst with an outsider. He could tell, walking the halls of the palace, who was aligned with that "party", which he feared would create mutiny and civil unrest in Wakanda. Storm might welcome it, but he didn't wish to put the family into anymore danger. For now, he would settle for talking with her.
He pulled up her information on his computer and paused before grabbing another chair. While the one he would have used was a slightly less ornate version of the throne his mother now occupied, it was not going to be comfortable for what he expected to be a long talk. It had been a few months since the gala in NYC, and he missed Anreal's chipper personality and optimistic outlook on life. Sitting down he clicked the button to dial her, took up a headset, and did as all cats... waited.

Anreal McKenzie walked through the kitchen of the Titans tower, popped corn in the microwave a movie was on the television when her communicator began to buzz. The princess of Atlantis answered it by placing the device to her pointed ear and spoke. "Hello, this is Anreal."
She waited for the voice on the other line, the communicator was receiving from an African line, if Anreal had to guess she would think it was from Wakanda, since last winter at the masquerade Bem had been calling a lot more. They had always been friendly acquaintances but recently they'd been moving towards a more sincere friendship. Perhaps on her next trip away from the tower she'd be able to go to Wakanda and visit that was always good for morale, to visit friends.

Upon hearing her voice, Bem could nearly swear by the Panther that his heart stopped. He replied after clearing his throat, "Anreal, It's Bem. How are you?"
Bem wondered how things were at the Titans Tower. He had heard that a member of the team was developing security for them. This teammate he would have to meet, and get their name... Maybe he could convince the team into coming to Wakanda one day.

Smiling the little Atlantean paused her movie and hopped up to sit on the counter. "Hey Bem, I'm doing really good. Just kinda chillin' around the Tower. How're things Wakanda side?" She was getting really good at slang, Annie was teaching her all about it, and she was getting really proficient. In Fact just the other day Anreal had stopped by the candy store to pick up some gummy worms and the owner hadn't asked where she was from originally. She was glad to finally be fitting in.
"You'll never believe what happened the other day, Sam- our tech genius- was working on the Titans security and he sealed off the lower levels of the building, I was stuck for hours in the underwater cavern." She giggled her little report. "I actually didn't even know I was stuck though, I was to busy working down below to even notice."

The prince leaned back in his seat and grinned a toothy smile, "Mother and I are well. Still handling the Traditionalists as best she can. Actually, I'm kind of in hiding right now. I had to get some "me" and flex my legs."
Bem's eyes lit up as he caught wind of the name of the Young Titan's tech whiz. He had more questions, but then figured that they could wait. The prince had other matters he wished to discuss with the Atlantean heiress. First though, he addressed her story about the lower portions of the Titan's Tower. "So, it sounds as though the repairs to the Tower are fully completed? Has the team elected a new leader? Maybe I could talk to mother about the team coming to Wakanda for a celebration... It could give us some time to talk of other matters..." He trailed off.
Bem silently rebuked himself, he couldn't let on just yet that he liked her as more than just a friend. He couldn't fully imagine how the pair would work with her being in San Francisco and he in Wakanda, Africa. That coupled with the current political battle with the Traditionalists... It would be mother's nightmare waiting to ensue.

Anreal giggled slightly. "Oh yes, we're very nearly finished, though we're still debating on a leader. I'm sure every one would love to come to Wakanada too." She wondered if every one had passports, not that they needed them with Barda's boom tube. They could just appear out side of the royal palace and never need to go through customs.
"Though, Bem, I'm not sure a celebration for the Titans would be a good time to talk about matters of State. Perhaps we should set up a time to talk just the two of us in an official capacity?" This was a side of her that the other Titans rarely saw, Anreal the Princess, the politician and the future head of state. Though she was a happy go lucky girl most of the time Anreal did have her own responsibilities and they were very serious ones at that. She was in charge of the relations with many other countries and keeping relations good with them while her Father stayed bellow and ran things in Atlantis. Just as he had done when he was younger- though albeit Anreal was much less aggressive in her diplomacy tactics than her father was when he was her age.

"Ah, forgive me princess. I did not mean a celebration for the Titans. I was referring to a Wakandan celebration." Wow... She really had him sprung. This feeling was so, unusual for the young prince. He had not felt like this before. Words failed him, his heart rate increased to the point that he could hear it pulsing in his own ears. He thought about maybe going to see a doctor or maybe speaking with his aunt about it afterwards. Scratch that idea... Bem halted,Not only is she starting to show tendencies in thinking more so as a Traditionalist, she talks too much, and Panther forbid I mention my feelings for the Atlantean princess.
Bem was never much for letting too many emotions show, especially when in a political arena. Wakandan men were known for being resolute and never backing down. One of the few emotions the men, and quite a few women, were ever visibly known to show was that of either anger or disdain.

Anreal giggled. "I'm sorry I didn't understand at first." She was smiling big and brightly on the other side of the phone and it was apparent in her voice. She very much enjoyed having a friend who understood the pressures of Royal life. The abject need to please every member of your kingdom while still doing what is forward moving for the country and best for the citizens.
The little Atlantean shuttered to think about what it would like when her father passed away and she was in charge of Atlantis. She prayed she'd be strong enough to put all of her childish notions behind her and move forward. Though the idea of breaking things off with Pete, and not seeing her friend's Annie, and Barda made her sad just thinking about it. At least there could be state appointed visits to Wakanda, so she wouldn't loose all contact with Bem.
"I've been thinking of following the migration of the Great Whites this fall with some of the Atlantean Scientists from California towards Africa. They're studying how the migratory pattern will affect some of the newer Lemurian and Atlantean colonies along the way. Do you think you go maybe meet us at Cape Town?" She knew it was far from inland Wakanda, but surely not so far he couldn't charter a plane to come visit a friend.

"Cape Town, huh?" Bem rubbed his chin in thought.... Thanking the Panther that his skin was so dark... His face was burning and he wondered if it was something that he had gotten into or if there was something more afoot. He glanced off to the side of the screen and caught sight a map. Noticing the distance between the site Anreal mentioned and Wakanda he rolled his eyes. "Of course! Wouldn't take me very long on my bike.... or my jet." He exclaimed. Maybe, just maybe, he thought, while we are there we can get some time away from the Dora Milaje and her guards. "I must confess Anreal, I miss talking to you... a-and I--" Another call was coming in, no doubt someone from the palace, namely his mother or aunt. "Duty calls" he muttered as he quickly ended the call with Anreal after reassuring her he would see her soon.

Anreal sat on the counter in the Titans tower holding her communicator. It felt odd and rushed when she had conversations with Bem these days, was he upset at her about something? She'd have to ask Pete about boys from the surface later.
Hopping down she continued making her snack before wandering into the living room, wondering what was becoming of her friend.
