The Doom of Serbia (Thread 3)

It all started with the arrival of Hjordis from Asgard. The old friend ad ally of Octavius Thorson brought the Justice League of Avengers dire news! The Asgardian Heroine had discovered a plot being hatched in Joteheim. Bor Von Doom was not the chief architect behind the invasion of the Midgard Ream of Serbia, it was the treacherous Alti Lokisen! Using an ancient ritual Alti aimed to become the living incarnation of Jotenheim itself. Such a thing would make him in league with the Skyfathers! To perform his ritual he needed a tremendous bloodsacrifice, a sacrifice he would force from every living person in Belgrade, Serbia's Capital City.

At this same, Deputy Director Piper Hale received word from her top field team at S.H.I.E.L.D. they had finally uncovered the evidence that Bor had falsified his evidence to justify his invasion of Serbia.

Now the Justice League of America, The Young Titans and S.H.I.E.L.D. have raced to Belgrade to save the lives of over a million innocent people and perhaps untold million if Alti succeeds in his plot! But it shall not be easy, Bor has assembled his forces to stop the Heroes from ruining his Uncles plans!

For Octavius, this is personal. While the others handle the Von Dooms and their allies, Octavius breaks through and makes his up the tallest Skyscraper in the City.

Atop the tallest skyscraper in Serbia's capital stood a lone man, long blonde hair blew in the wind as he watched the city around him, the City that would soon be as lifeless as the tundra's of the world's between.
He smirked, and once this sacrifice was made he'd be able to challenge the gods for his birth right- Loki Laufeyson's heir- the Prince of Asgard.

Bor looked to have his pieces in place, soon very soon this little game could be played out.
Drawing the dimension splitting sword given to him by his mother Alti cut through to Jotunheim, and watch as the icy tundra began to spill frozen rain into Midgard.
"Brothers!" He called into the void. "Today you will become one with Asgard, today you will be embodied through the true king of the gods!"

Adorned in the white and gold armour of his mother's land Octavius emerged from the stair well, managing to kick down the door even without his powers. He was still huge and knew his stuff. With his axe in one hand and his other balled into a fist he approached his Fel-cousin.

"Alti! This ends now naive, call off your hounds down below and halt this abomination. It need go no further." It was true he was at something of a big disadvantage due to the change in powers, but someone needed to stop Ali and the Von Dooms had everyone else tied up.

When the Themyscrian man kicked in the door Alti turned, slowly.
He noted Octavius with mild interest then sheathed his sword and watched the group playing out before him.

Bor unleashed a birage of lasers and misiles at the armored one and the other Asgardian girl. The sight was amusing, at best there was no chance of them being able to win this fight. And at worst they were all slaughtered before the sacrifice began, which was fine with Alti either way.

He turned his head back to Octavius for a moment. "Do you see them? Toiling, the mortals of Midgard, the pathetic little worms." He smiled ever so hauty and looked back down on them. "You had the right idea you know, these mortals are made to be ruled, But you son of Thor were never a king, Mortality suits you, but the shroud of royalty is for my shoulders, immortality and strength are my inheritance, amazing how justice rewards the patient."

"The only reward you'll be receiving is a swift kick in the rear if you're lucky." Octavius was denied his powers but his axe was still a magic weapon forged of precious uru, it could do its task. "You're understanding of my idea is a primitive as your understanding of your place in the world. A Pauper Prince born to the Master of Lies." It was with that weapon now that he struck, running towards Alti before leaping into the air. Both hands held his axe firmly as he swung down to cleave his "cousin" in twain.

Alti was an Asgard problem that threatened millions of lives in Midgard. As a God Octavius held back against the children of Midgard. It simply wasn't right to use such power on "mere" mortals. But as a man against a God, Octavius would have to fight to win, his options were few and far between.

When Octavius leapt into the air, axe ready to strike Alti felt little need to fear, in fact he found the site quite humorous and laughed, drawing his sword and catching the axe blade on the blade of his sword.

Sparks flew as the Asgardian man tossed the attack aside and raise his foot to kick Octavius backward while the other tried to regain his footing from the landing botched by the sweeping blade of Alti.
"Come now Octavius, I'd hate to have to to kill you before the fun begins, but if you wish your death to be the first of this grand occasion, I'd be happy to oblige."

With that the large man, drew both swords and rushed at Octavius, with such a striking weapon as an Axe it would be weight against weight, who could gain the most leverage and push the other to the ground to strike. Alti had to commend his cousin on the ballsy idea that he could possibly stand a chance, but Alti's 600 pounds to Octavius' near 200 would be an unfair fight.

Octavius brought his weapon down towards Alti but the cur managed to bring up his own blade to deflect. Before Octavius had any chance to react he felt kick strike gut and sent him soaring back. It had never been hit so hard. Well he probably had, but with his abilities reduced to that of mortal standards it was an entirely different story.

"If I must die this day so be it, but I have no plan foul fiend." His cousin came at him but Octavius was not the fool to meet him head on, least he be like a pup caught in the path of the bull. Diving to one side Octavius avoided the rushing Alti before bringing up his axe once more, hoping to catch his foe as he passed.

Alti brought his blades together catching the blade of the axe and tossing it aside once more.
"You're not bad for a mortal." Alti laughed, using the hilt of his sword to knock Octavius across the jaw- not hard enough to shatter his skull mind you, Alti wanted Octavius to live long enough to see his comrades suffer and die.

Reaching down and grabbing his cousin by his long ebony locks Alti raised Octavius off the ground and leaned close.
"When I'm given all the power of Jotunheim, I will take a little trip to Asgard where the men will fall and the women will lament at my feet- imagine the look on poor Dianah's face as she lays across my bed, while the heads of her son and beloved Thor rest on spikes adorning my wall?" The Asgardian man laughed smashing Octavius face once more into the concrete roof of the building.

Skill at arms was almost always the deciding factor in combat, it separated warriors from legends and overcame obstacles. Where a man was not as swift or mighty as his foe, simply being the better fighter could alter the tides of battle. There was a limit to such things however. No matter how Octavius tried, without his powers his he was bound by limits that his cousin soared beyond. He simply could not strike so swift that the Lokison's reflexes were made the fool, nor could he strike with so power that it batter his defenses. Alti could weather any blow the Thorson could send.

His jaw was struck hard and Octavius was sent low, becoming immediately aware his sense of taste was overwhelmed by the copper sting of his own blood. He needed only to open his mouth and the red fluid poured from burst lip and gum.

~Meanwhile, in another Realm~

"You must open the rainbow bridge! He's killing our son!" Diana had rarely asked anything of her husband and since they had known each other Thor had never known to see Diana waver. But even Diana could not hide the quiver on her lips and concern in her voice as they watched the events unfolding on Midgard.

"I am watching as you are my love, but we must stay our hands for now. Trust our Son." It was no easier for Thor to watch but the Thunder God was suddenly aware of much behind his own Father's lessons and teachings that seemed callous and cold. It was hard, but they must wait.

~Back in Serbia~

Alti slammed Octavius's face into the concrete, nose and tooth were broken and more blood spilled. Waves of pain continually shot through his body and his limbs barely responded when he willed them to move. His breathing was slow and painful, his vision blurry as his eye lashes dripped with his own blood for his cousin had been holding him upon the pool.

But it was easy to be a Hero when there was no challenge, it was when pushed and tested and when victory seemed like a distant shore that a true hero had to reach deep into their well and drink the waters of courage and love.

A growl rumbled out from his throat, his limbs took the greatest effort to push into action but push them into action Octavius did. His battle cry came out on a crooked voice but it sounded out atop the building none the less. Rising to his feet, the sun's heat beaming down on him like never before, for there was not a cloud in the sky. It was like a smile from Balder the Bright. With both fists clenched Octavius swung up with all the might he could, a might that made his arms scream out in anguish as he forced himself beyond reason in hopes that his fists might strike true upon the trickster's jaw and by some miracle lay him low.

Octavius' fist connected with Alti's jaw, causing his face to jerk hard in the opposite direction. It barely hurt, it was like a bee sting at best but it was enough to make Alti angry.
Returning the punch with one of his own Alti aimed for the former Asgardian Prince's face, then kicked him once more to the ground.

"Now now Octavius, you can't honestly want to ruin the show before it starts."
As if to accent his point the sky began to darken and Alti turned his attention once more to the sky as the moaning gusts of wind poured snow and hale into portal into midgard heralding the cold air and the warm air colliding as the portal to Jotunheim opened.
"All of this is about to be mine Octavius, and then I will take Asgard and Midgard to heel."

Octavius Thorson had been trying with all of his might, but found himself wanting. Each strike his fel-cousin made struck him with terrible force. Struck upon the face and sent low by get another foul blow the Thorson felt his body shattered. The spirit was wanting to continue but it was a cruel fate that the body could not longer.

Reeling in agony he was somewhat stretched out atop the roof, cold winds cutting into open wounds and leaving a stinging sensation, but it was the fainest pain drowning in an ocean of others. His eyes closed now for they were getting infinitely heavy. He could hear the sounds of his allies fighting in the distance but the noise was muddled and he had a sneaking suspicion it was his own blood that made the noise so hard to hear.

Alti looked over his shoulder at his cousin and smiled, a broad smile of victory.
"I shall see you in Hel cousin." The tall Asgardian man said, before taking a leap off of the building and onto the platform where Bor was now hovering.

That damnable Ironman was buzzing about like a wasp, but with a quick magical zap, he- she- what ever it was calling it's self these days was sent flying into a building a few blocks away.
"No tell me dear Nephew, why are we still listening to this inane chatter, take me higher, to victory and to our shared glory."
And by shared Alti meant that it would be all his, he would be the Avatar of Jotunheim, not Bor, Bor was just a vassal to direct his new unworldly energy.

Bor Von Doom watched as Alti quickly dispatched Iron Man, that was an amusing sight. A moment later he turned slightly to face his relative. "All is proceeding as planned. Everything is falling into place." his face was a rock of confidence, a calm & cool confidence. Regardless he brought up on of his arms and with his other hand typed at a console. An audio receiver appeared from beneath his collar. "Deploy the Doom bots." he ordered and within moments, moments the sky was raining with an army of what could have been called Bor clones.

"Let us leave nothing to chance." he replied, turning back to face the battlefield now as the heroes scrambled to fight a failing fight. Against his Doombots they would be crushed!

Alti laughed with amusement as he watched the Heros fight their failing fight. "Soon Asgard will be under our feet, and there is nothing those 'gods' can do to stop us!"

As they rose to the portal Alti took a deep breath, soon he would feel the cold embrace of Jotunhiem in his very soul, he'd be a force to be reckoned with, he'd be a god among gods.
He lifted his face to the portal he was ready for it, he'd soon know all the wonder and power, he'd bring all of the world to know his might.

Octavius was down on his back, his body moving only the slightest amount. A swinging knee and little more. His breathing was strained and he was shifting in and out of conscious, struggled to stay as he was but his mind and clarity being dragged away by the punishments put upon his mortal shell by his cousin. "Father...Mother. I know you can hear me." It was not easy to speak. It hurt. Everything did right now. "But please....I beseech you now. My power....not for I, not for victory...or glory." his head fell to one side and he could faintly make out Vincent being blown across the city. His friends fighting desperately and the people of this city. "For them....let me protect them. They did not ask for this."

~~Meanwhile, some place far away~~

Roaring fires brought light to the room, all were fixed upon its center as a great shimmer gave view of the events unfolding on Midgard. While it was this shimmer, this magic gate that gave view to another world that held attention none in the great hall of Asgard could help put cast gaze to the two figures that occupied its Thrones. Thor sat back into his wooden throne, his eyes fixed on the shimmer more then another other. But it was Diana that was the vision of empathy for her son.

"Thor....you must do something. He's killing him. He's killing our son!" she could not watch in comfort, she was a mother watching her son be brutalized by his own cousin. A warrior maiden herself, more then a match for Alti but powerless to help from such a great distance away.

Thor Odinson, great King Thor! Often he sat and watched not because he was apathetic to the suffering of his own boy but because he knew that one day Octavius would rule and when he did, he would need to have known suffering. Thor had to know his son had the character, that he was the man Thor needed him to be. Finally the Odinson rose from his throne and reached out a hand. His hammer, his age old friend and companion flew back. He had not held it properly in quite some time. Its leather handle...felt familiar and warm. With a fluid motion he felt it up, close enough to his mouth so that he may whisper to it.

~Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor ... and the Thorson~ With the enchantment upon the hammer renewed to spirit Octavius's powers Thor gave the hammer one last throw and cast it into the shimmer.

"Now...we hope the boy is worthy." Thor replied before turning back to his wife. "He is. I know it."

~~Back in Serbia~~

It got to the point that Octavius was starting to think his parents had abandoned him, that he would die on this roof far from home. He closed his eyes and tried to think back to finer times, but peaceful memories did not come easy. The pain of the present was a cruel reminder of his predicament. But as he was fading into unconsciousness once more he heard it. The boom of thunder!

His eyes shot open and he could see it, the hammer....mighty Mjolnir! It came from the heavens have shattered Alti's foul portal as it passed through, it landed as it always did, the handle pointing upwards. It landed....just out of reach. What cruel jest was this!? Had his mind formed a trick to tease him in his last moments? Was it the world of Alti? No...it was as real as he was. As real as his desire to save Midgard.

Octavius would need to reach for it. His arm already outstretched as his open palm made for the handle, it was mere inches from him! He could smell it! He tried shifting himself to get closer and found his body crying out against him, pain that would have overwhelmed. He was getting closer, each tiny fraction of a movement brought new waves of excruciating pain. But then, just then...it was in his hand.

Again there was the boom of thunder and flash of lightning, but this time it was a celebration of triumph. It was a bolt of lightning that brought the power Octavius needed to inherit his father's role as Protector of Midgard. Octavius could stand tall again as his body was renewed and restored to Godhood.

Though still caked in sweat and blood his wounds were gone. Aches and pains that plagued his mortal body that he had forgotten about were lifted and the Thorson felt strong again. His eyes could see more clearly and ears hear more acutely. He could see the world around him with all the majesty it deserved to be seen with. Even this place torn by war.

Then his fixed his gaze upon his foul cousin. "ALTI! I WOULD HAVE WORDS WITH THEE!" he held up Mjolnir in one hand and his axe in the other. He was ready for war now. With a great leap he flew from the roof of the building and started hurtling towards his cousin, an Asgardian warcry bellowing in the winds ahead of him!
